Are you still learning stuff?

|

@Mandy (on the blogroll) - Hi! Did you know that you can click the "subscribe by email" link when you leave a comment and then you don't have to keep checking? I'm on my way to go scratch your back now. :)

The Daily DeMo, Edition 4

DD#18 :: Monday - The word "ken" means scope of vision or knowledge and understanding. I learned this from babymakesthree.

DD#19 :: Tuesday - Today I learned that the QWERTY keyboard was invented by some guy (I have searched and searched and can't find the blog where I first read this. Perhaps I should narrow down my blog list so that I can find stuff.) who realized that the typewriter kept jamming because the most frequently used keys were placed together. So he separated them so that the frequently used keys are on opposite sides of the keyboard.

DD#20 :: Wednesday - To resize a layer with a mask in Gimp, right click on the layer mask and uncheck Edit Layer Mask.

DD#21 :: Thursday - I learned that a patch of fake chest hair and a wig can really have an effect on my view of a person. He can go from a perfectly good friend to someone who is not attractive at all.

DD#22 :: Friday - I learned that it's not worth it for me to spend money on Diversion and that I should just pay the speeding ticket.

DD#23 :: Saturday - If you average the income of the people you hang out with, your own income will fall within 10% of that number.

DD#24 :: Sunday - Trying to catch up on missed blogs along with Facebook updates over the weekend is nearly impossible and overwhelming. I'm tempted to just click "mark all as read."

DD#25 :: Monday - Angela informed me that there are 13 types of Spam: Spam Classic, Spam Classic 7 oz., Spam Low Sodium, Spam Garlic, Spam Lite, Spam Golden Honey, Spam Hot and Spicy, Spam Spread, Spam Singles, Spam Hickory Smoke, Spam with Bacon, Spam with Cheese, and Spam Oven Roasted Turkey.

DD#26 :: Tuesday - A friend from college is getting married in the Orthodox Christian Church and I read some info about the traditions.

DD#27 :: Wednesday - It's not as easy as it might seem to make a simple button for a link in SharePoint Services.

DD#28 :: Thursday - It seems like there are days when I really have to search for what I've learned, then one day I'll learn a whole bunch of new stuff to make up for it. This is one of those days. That SPS stuff that I was frustrated with yesterday? It just takes a new way of thinking about making it happen. There's always a simpler answer...

DD#28.1 - While watching a special show about Michael J Fox and optmism, I learned about Gross National Happiness in Buhtan.

DD#28.2 - While catching up on reading The Simple Dollar today, I learned that "$40,000 is a truly magic number. Below that number, people were much less happy with their lives - people with a household income of $20K or $30K were generally less happy with their state of living than people earning $40K."

DD#28.3 - My blogland buddy Mindee got to do a segment on the Rachael Ray Show and meet Bill Clinton. It was cool to read about her experience.

DD#28.4 - An overweight man riding a motorcycle without his shirt tucked in will reveal some nasty muffin top action.

Phew! I hope you made it through that. What did you learn today (or this week)?

OMG! I am changing my name to "Mandy (the one MENTIONED in the post)"! I'm getting more famous with each day! Thank you for the tip. Sorry I only have helpful hints about how to get rid of ants. I used to think I knew a thing or two about blogs and blogging but I'm thinking not so much now. Have I already asked you if you know how I can get my old xanga posts onto my new blog? Because that has me thrown.
I used that photo as the header on my xanga as well. I'm trying it out, I may do a "header photo" week like I did with the themes.
The Spam information was my favorite. I will be sharing that tasty bit at future gatherings. Let's see if I can memorize them all, just to make it that much more impressive.
I'm subscribing to email now so you don't have to comment on my blog now! Thanks for the scratch anyhoo though!!

This morning I learned it is almost impossible to eat oatmeal while driving. ( I was also talking with Angela on the phone) I can multitask but maybe I shouldn't while driving!

I really like the one about the QWERTY keyboard inventor. Also I just realized looking at my key board the top row starts with QWERTY. I did not know that. I also did not know about a group of friends and average income. Although I am not suprised.

I learned the other day that if I want to help stop hooking my golf ball I need to make sure I get my shoulders all the way turned towards the hole on the follow through. I might have to test that out today.

The computer in the Veggie Tales videos is named QWERTY.

What did I learn this week? That Rachael Ray is REALLY short and that I seriously need someone to come and do my makeup every day.

That's not actually going to happen though.

Thanks for the plug. :)

I learned what "ken" means long ago when I was learning a piano song, "D'ye ken Jon Peel?" Looked it up so the words would make sense to me. Today, I googled the song & found several more verses. And googled Jon Peel to learn even more. :-)

Today I learned that cayenne pepper, garlic, and dish soap all mixed in water will keep the caterpillars from munching on my herbs before I do!

And as a person whose little household makes less than $40K per year, I have to say that we are very happy with the lifestyle it gives us! Maybe the people they polled lived in expensive metro areas?
