Bits & Pieces

Hello! I am way behind on Daily DeMos and I hope to get those up this week. I've been commenting on other blogs and cleaning out my Google Reader but haven't managed to make anything significant happen here. Well, let me change that right now!

Grandpa spent 3 weeks in the hospital for some sort of infection and needed breathing treatments and a bunch of other stuff. He's back home now and looking great. It was so nice to see him in his own recliner instead of a hotel bed yesterday. Being able to spend time with gma & gpa every week has been really neat and it's fun to see their excitement when I tell them what I've been up to and their disbelief that I can do so many things and still be awake. :)

I started 4-week pottery class on Tuesday night with Janel and Heather. Heather took me out for my birthday dinner at Caffe Moderne (have I mentioned before how much I love that place?). We had lots of fun in the class and I went back on Friday night for about an hour to get in some more practice. It's really relaxing and I found that I centered my clay when I wasn't really thinking about it. As soon as I thought about what I was doing, it started to get all wacky. I haven't made anything worth saving yet, but by the end of the class I should have a coffee mug.

I'm going out of town tonight on my first trip for work. I wasn't supposed to go but nobody else was available. Hopefully I can come back with all the right information! I am really excited to see Jay & Kelli and Owen & Kate tonight. I made sure to get an indoor pool so that we can all go swimming!

Couch to 5k is still happening, but not lately. (I'm definitely not giving up on it. How can I when I could finally put on a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in over two years? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, when you clean out your closet but are thinking "oh man, these are my favorite jeans. They don't fit... but maybe someday...") Lots of my friends are running a 5k on August 22 but I think it's still a little bit too early for me to do it since I didn't get serious enough about training for it. There's a Wichita Barbarians game (rugby -- doesn't that name make them sound tough?) that afternoon. Maybe Becky & Nathan will come with me.

I am slowly gaining converts to Twitter. As I tell people, "You just gotta know how to use it." I think it's a common misconception that twitter is just intended to update people on your status like you would on Facebook. If that's all that you use it for though you're not going to have much fun with it. It's more of a conversational tool and you can find tons of great resources on Twitter. This is something that I'll post more about later. If you're already a user, you can follow me @demossa.

I'm going to see the musical Wicked in October. Very excited! I'm reading the book right now and it is very fantastical (not fantastic but fantastical). Have you read it? What did you think about it? I don't recommend it, and I'm so far into it that I'm just reading it out of curiosity for what happens.

My friends Doug & Angela just got back from a trip to the wilderness. Angela took notes on their adventure and wrote down each day of the trip what was blog-worthy. She should be updating each day and I'm pretty sure that you will be laughing at everything that happened. You can check out her blog here.

The Pathways team got back from El Salvador on the 2nd and Pathways cut out early to meet them at the airport. It doesn't happen very often that the teams return on a night that is convenient for everyone to welcome them home, so this was definitely a surprise. Everyone was so thankful to us for being there (we even had signs and maracas!). I've been hearing pieces of stories from the trip but I'm looking forward to the night when they all share together at Pathways.

I am the coordinator for publicity of Judgement House* this year. I will make another post about JH a little bit later in case you don't know what it's about. If it comes to your mind, please pray for JH this year, and for unity for all of the teams. I feel like publicity is a big job and will definitely need your prayers to get stuff coordinated and advertised at all the right times!

So... what did I miss out on in your life? :)

*I do realize that Judgment is spelled wrong, but that's how it is spelled for the event. I don't know why they decided to do it that way -- ok, I do know. I did a quick search on the website and found out what's with the "e". According to them, it can go either way.

hooray for randomness. i enjoyed the update. glad to hear that gpa is doing better. i've been slacking on my running as well. i'm falsely hoping that once i move i'll get back into it. we'll see if that actually happens.

and my life hasn't been too terribly exciting. so you haven't missed much. :)

I absolutely LOVE Wicked - the show, not the book. The book is atrocious, and I, too, only finished it because I had read so far already that it would have been a huge waste to stop. But, yeah, ICKY, depressing, and just plain BAD WRITING...the exact opposite of the musical :-)

I saw Wicked in Chicago in December and loved it. Mom told me to be quiet I was laughing so hard. I have tickets for it in October too & am looking forward to it.

We get to go to Wicked too! We are going Nov. 6, a real grown-up date night out with our friends:) I haven't read the book, but heard that it is dry and it needs to be acted (and sung?)out.
Thanks for updating. I know having sick grandparents can be worrisome and suck up time, but good except for the sick part.
Don't worry about the slack in Couch to 5K, it is really hot and it might be better to wait until cooler. That should be the reason to wait on a race too:)

Demo,
You've inspired me! My Mom and I are going to start Couch to 5K tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous, I'm NOT a runner. I've always wanted to be, I even envy people who are. However, I've never been able to make it happen. Hopefully this will work!
