This morning I was up early enough to get all of my errands done before noon, and that included a trip to the farmer's market at 21st and Ridge Road. I also stopped by the Old Town farmer's market for some fresh flowers and picked up a green pepper that smells delicious (so does the fresh garlic!). I can't wait to make something with it. I would have bought some chard and radishes, but have no idea what to make with those.

It wasn't until after I took this picture that I realized that I accidentally stole that basket that the potatoes are in. I don't think that was included in the $2 cost of the potatoes. I had my own bag with me, so I told the lady as she went to grab the potatoes, that I had my own bag. So I grabbed a basket of potatoes. You know how you can feel people looking at you, but they don't say anything? I felt their looks but they were quiet as I walked away, and I didn't think much of it. I think the way it works is that you leave the baskets and bowls there, and take the veggies. Oops! I'll go back next Saturday and hopefully find them to return the basket. Lesson learned. :) Are things like this just common sense, or did everyone else take a lesson in farmer's market shopping? Have you ever made a shopping mistake?
The potatoes are boiled and ready to be made into a potato salad for a cookout tonight. It seems like there is at least one cookout a weekend throughout the summer. I need some ideas of stuff that is cheap, fast, and tasty that I can take. Lately I've been making corn dip, and one night I made peanut butter pie (oh my my that was delish! but takes time!). What do you like to take to cookouts?
What I love about the Old Town Farmer's Market is the cut stem flowers. It's so nice to have fresh flowers in my table throughout the week. Last week I bought peonies, but they have already wilted. I'm trying to save the one last baby bloom. This week I bought six stems of Bells of Ireland. I don't think that I've ever seen those flowers before. They remind me of a tiny Snap Dragon flower within a green bell. Very pretty! A friend of a friend from Texas is staying the night with me as she passes through town on Tuesday night. Places with flowers are always so much more friendly. I hope she thinks so too. :)

How about baked beans for a cookout? That's always a fave here :)
Sarah - If I liked beans, that might be an option. :)
i wonder if there's a farmer's market in fargo.... highly unlikely. that would be fun.
i'm hoping that SOMEDAY i'll just have a wicked huge garden and it will supply all of our veggie needs for at least a month. haha!
i love veggies and gardens. i always see them and i'm so jealous because while the one i have is fun and all, it's still in POTS and not in a big ol' garden.
