I have to go to Dallas for work, (something totally unrelated to my current job duties, but will be a new experience, and something that I'll probably enjoy) and I'm going to be gone for 5 weeks. It's been a little bit intense getting things ready at work so that other people can do my job while I'm gone. I leave on Sunday with 4 other people. Fortunately I already had plans to help with the Run for Hope on the 18th, so I'll fly back and be home long enough to tell my mom goodbye before she leaves the next morning for Florida, spend some time with my dad in between Run for Hope stuff, and then I'll catch a plane back to Dallas on the 19th. It's going to be a whirlwind weekend, and I'm sort of thankful for the break, although maybe the first week of work will go so quickly that I won't even realize that I'm gone. I've been excited/nervous/curious/etc. about what's going to happen. Looking at pics of the hotel, I'm getting a little bit more used to the idea of being gone, and sort of looking forward to it, if only to sleep under the polka dotted bedspread. :)
Hopefully some of my friends will be taking a road trip to visit me while I'm down there. I'm definitely taking my boots, b/c I can't imagine being in Texas and not 2-stepping.
I'll still be around the bloggy and emails. I am in charge of publicity again this year for Judgement House, so that will be an extra challenge with getting things done from 5 hours away.
I need some incentive to pack though, it's the worst. When I'm supposed to be packing is when the most intense apt cleaning gets done (and apparently tonight, blogging), because I get distracted cleaning out my closet or eradicating the dust bunnies. I'm having a dilemma right now of whether or not to bring shirt hangers. I know that hotels always have some, but do they have 20 for all of my clothing options? Or will I have to store my extras in the dresser drawers?
What is something that you always forget to pack? I need to know, because it's probably something that I'll forget.

Sunglasses.
You can always request more hangers if they don't have enough! This weekend we're going to KC - and it's my first time requesting a CRIB in the room...which I didn't even know they did. But they do :) I usually forget one of the hair/body care products I keep under my sink, since they're not readily available to the eye.
Or a razor.
But the good news is that they have stores in Dallas just like they do in Wichita! (That's what my husband always reminds me when I worry about forgetting something :)
This Erin also says hangers are cheap and readily available for purchase if the hotel doesn't have enough.
I think you will have fun! Who wouldn't, being paid to live in a place like that!? I'm sure it might get old eventually, but it's probably not an experience you'll have again, so enjoy it!
Take some quarters for the laundry, and don't forget your computer. Ha! :)
phone charger
Deodorant. Not that you smell. It is just the thing I leave behind the most. Probably because I am using it the next morning, and then I forget to pack it. Same thing with my toothbrush. Oh and don't forget to pack your bible.
Oh there should be a smiley face after the "not that you smell." line, but I am tired this morning, and not thinking clearly. :)
Have fun in Dallas. and Erin's right. Anything you forget, you can probably buy. But the phone charger is the biggie.
And keep us updated on your fun! don't forget to blog. :-)
Cash. Lots of cash, so you don't have to pay ATM fees.
i think the best way to pack for an extended trip is to be aware of (or write down) the stuff that you find you use daily (or weekly). see the things that are always out of place, or always being put 'back where they belong'.
also, i wouldn't worry about hangers. you can probably buy a pack for a buck when you get down there and then they won't take up valuable packing space. also, hotels have irons so that should help too. :)
